Today I will give you an information about a self called sweetcore band Alesana. Yeah, this is about this north Carolina band.
Bassed on wiki, this band was called American Rock band who formed in 2004. Currently the group signed to Epitaph Records.
This band was founded by Shawn Milke, Patrick Thompson, Dennis Lee, Steven Tomany and Daniel Magnuson.
After some re-line up, their current member is Shawn Milke, Patrick Thompson, Dennis Lee, Jeremy Bryan, Shane Crump and Alex Torres.
The name of the band is inspired from Aliceanna St., which Shawn Milke and Patrick Thompson lived on when playing in Baltimore, MD. Aliceanna St. is located in Fells Point, a neighborhood in Baltimore.
Alesana’s musical style is unique and still make a controversial because of shifting between light and heavy sounds along with a wide influence ranging to even classic rock bands.
They use both of clean and scream on the vocal. The band also often using double pedal on some song.
The lyrical theme of Alesana is very unique and this is the one which make their succesfull. The lyric was taken by the great story from some region. It really make us think about their song is more relevant being called a hystorical book than song :D
Their first album “On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax” was bassed on the greek mythology about Icarus.

Icarus- This refers to the Greek legend of Icarus, who died trying to escape the island of Crete on wings built by his father, by vainly ignoring his father's warnings that the wings could melt if he flew too close to the sun.
Pathetic, Ordinary- This refers to the Greek legend of Hades' lust for Zeus' and Demeter's daughter Persephone. She is kidnapped by demons and brought to the underworld, where Hades holds her as his queen. Once Zeus hears, he demands Hades to release her, but Hades had convinced Persephone to eat pomegranate seeds of the underworld, therefore binding her to the underworld. In order to compromise, Zeus allowed Hades to have her for a third of the year, while she returns to the surface for the other two-thirds of the year.
Alchemy Sounded Good At The Time- This song is based on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. After Eurydice dies by falling into a pit of vipers while trying to escape from Sator, a half-man half-goat demon, Orpheus will not accept it, so he ventures to the underworld to retrieve his love. He tricks the ferryman into letting him across, and uses his amazing musical talent to make it past Cerberus, the three-headed dog monster guardian of the underworld. Hades is so impressed, he allows Orpheus to have Eurydice back,as long as during the entire journey back, until they reached the surface, he could not look back to verify that she was behind him. Eventually he couldn't bear it, and looked back, causing Eurydice to be sucked back down to Hades.
Nero's Decay- This song refers to the story of the Roman emperor Nero. He was infamous for his tyranny, calling many executions, including those of his mother and stepbrother. He then blames the Great Fire of Rome on Christians, in order to deflect the blame from himself. In the end, a revolt led by Gaius Julius Vindex, which results in his loss of power, and rather than face public execution, he commits suicide on 9 June 68.
Third Temptation of Paris - This song refers to the epic fall of Troy. Paris is the brother of hector, son of king Priam, king of troy. Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite offered Paris a promise to get the apple of discord thrown by Eris. Hera promised him political power, Athena promised him war victories, Cleverly, Aphrodite promised him the most beautiful woman on earth which is Helen of Sparta, wife of king Menelaus which is his third temptation. When Menelaus know of this, he asked help for his brother Agamemnon which led to Trojan war.

The second album“Where Myth Fades to Legend” as with their previous album, the majority of the songs are related to fables and the members' "favorite stories" compiled from The Brothers Grimm, except for "As You Wish", which is based on the story The Princess Bride along with "This Is Usually The Part Where People Scream" which is based on the television series Heroes.

According to vocalist and rhythm guitarist, Shawn Milke, "This Is Usually the Part Where People Scream" is influenced by the television show Heroes. When the series premiered, "Save the cheerleader, save the world" closed all the promotions for Heroes which is similar to "It's a chance to save the world or lose the girl. Let's save the world. Heroes will save the day.".
"Seduction" is based on The Maiden Maleen, a tale about a girl who is trapped inside of a tower left with enough food to survive for only one year. When she finally escapes, she finds that her one true love is with another.
"A Most Profound Quiet" is a variation on the story The Robber Bridegroom in which the bridegroom is torn between loving his future wife, or killing her.
"Better Luck Next Time, Prince Charming" alludes to the tale of Snow White.
"The Uninvited Thirteenth" is based on Sleeping Beauty.
"Sweetheart, You are Sadly Mistaken" is an adaptation of Hansel and Gretel.
"As You Wish" is about the novel/movie The Princess Bride, from the point of view of Westley.
"Obsession Is Such an Ugly Word" is based on the Fitcher's Bird: in the tale, three sisters are captured by a wizard. One sister discovers that the other two have been slaughtered in a room that she has been given a key to, she is warned that she would pay if she opened the door.
In late February, Shawn Milke announced Alesana had started writing new material for their upcoming album. They began recording their third studio album, in July 2009, in Portland, Oregon, with producer Kris Crummett. The album, according to Shawn Milke on The Rave TV, would be entitled The Emptiness.
In 2009, Alesana won the Best Hardcore/Screamo Band at the Rock on Request Awards. The band were also invited to play "To Be Scared by an Owl" live on The Daily Habit.
The album is the first Alesana record to surround with a concept of an original story, instead of having songs written through already existing allusions. The album is considered that of a rock opera because of its in-depth story.
The story that The Emptiness revolves around was written by Lee and Milke. It is inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's last poem "Annabel Lee". The story is said by the band to be set in the onset of the 20th century and is expounded greatly in the liner notes album.
The central character of the story, a sketch artist known simply as "The Artist" wakes up one day to find his lover, Annabel, dead, lying beside him. Heartbroken and terrified, he buries her in his basement and flees. He wanders aimlessly until he comes to a tavern, where he hears the sounds of merriment and laughter. He decides that if he can't be happy no one can and slaughters everyone in the tavern.
After wandering through many places and finding Annabel's killer, "The Thespian", at the end of the story The Artist finally comes face to face with him to fight to the death. He is stabbed in his side with a dagger and finds himself in a room with Annabel holding a dagger in hand. From here on the story's point of view switches from The Artist to Annabel where she explains that The Artist had slowly been sinking into madness all this while, as he became more and more withdrawn and his sketches more and more violent. Though she loved him, in the end she had to take his life in the attempt to defend herself from him.
Shawn Milke stated; "The Emptiness is an idea that my co-vocalist and co-creator Dennis Lee and I have had since the days of recording our first EP, Try This With Your Eyes Closed. We've spent our career thus far basing our songs and lyrics on the works of some of our favorite authors and literature of the past (i.e. stories in Greek mythology, fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm) and some chosen contemporary screenwriting (i.e. Heroes, The Princess Bride). However, even back when we first started writing together, he and I always talked about writing our own story that we could bring to life through one of our records. The Emptiness is that dream come true.
Writing a story has to begin somewhere, it has to have its roots planted in some sort of inspiration. For Dennis and myself, that inspiration rested within the stories and poems of Edgar Allen Poe. In hindsight, this was a match made in heaven. Poe was a master of weaving words that could be so horrific and yet eerily beautiful all at once, and his final resting place is in Baltimore--the birthplace of Alesana and where we relocated to write this story.
The Poe piece that stood out to us the most was actually the final composition ever published in his career--a poem called 'Annabel Lee.' Some believe that his wife, Virginia Eliza Clemm Poe, inspired it but that has never been verified. The key point that we found interesting in 'Annabel Lee' was its theme. It explores the death of a beautiful woman and follows the thoughts of a narrator who retains his love for her even after her death. We decided that this theme would be the basis for The Emptiness. We were going to tell our own horrific love story. We showed our love, respect and thanks to Poe by naming our female lead character Annabel, and the ninth song in the story 'In Her Tomb By The Sounding Sea,' was the final line published in the famed career of Poe."
During the beginning of 2011, the band confirmed that plans for a new record were already in the works. Alesana stated that chosen VIP's were involved within the testing of new tracks that were prepared to be included on their fourth studio album. These trackings were recorded during March 2011 with producer Kris Crummett. By the beginning of that summer, Alesana completely finished the record's recording sessions. Alex Torres, Shane Crump, and Dennis Lee shortly thereafter confirmed that the mixing was finished as well and that they had the first master copies published. The name of the album was then announced to be titled, A Place Where The Sun Is Silent, and was released on October 18.
Being the second concept album released by Alesana, A Place Where the Sun Is Silent focuses on "The Inferno" by Dante Alighieri.The album thematizes Dante Alighieri's 14th-century epic poem, Inferno.
